I found these mini pears at the farmer's market the other day and instantly fell in love with them. Apparently, they're called Paradise or Faccia Bella pears. Although I didn't have a particular use for them them, they were so cute that I had to bring a few home with me....

I came across this recipe in the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Sheila magazine. It looked so decadent, I just had to try it. The trick is to have "ripe but firm" avocados on hand when the pears are just ripe. But once you've got that under control, the actual salad...
